Your wedding cake can be any shape and size you want it to be. From towering tiers of flavoursome sponges to intricately piped cupcakes, your wedding cake offers an excellent canvas to elaborate on your wedding theme.

Gone are the days of only having the option to decide how you would like your royal icing piped to adorn your marzipan coated fruit cake stack. With so many different icings and finishings at the disposal of your wedding cake maker, you need not feel you have to stick to standard wedding cake conventions.

Here are some ways in which you can bring your unique wedding cake to life and stand apart from the crowd:

Flowers:
Real blooms or not, make a bold statement with floral flourishes to accentuate your cake and tie-in your bridal party and corsages bouquets. Ensure that the flowers if real can survive the day without water and not spoil the effect. Faux flowers can offer more flexibility and options without the need for moisture.

Colour:
Each tier or cupcake need not be the same colour –  A splash of bold colour amidst your more conventional icing colours of whites and cream or blend a rainbow ombre of colours through your wedding cake display to dramatically change the look. It’s amazing how much just a change from the traditional can do to catch the eye

Cake Topper:
Remember the classic figurines of a bride and groom that would sit atop a wedding cake? Well how about thinking beyond those impersonal figures and choose exact mini replicas of yourselves to sit, stand, swim or drive on the very top of the wedding cake! Or change direction and have your house, car, pet or anything else that means something to you both modelled on top!

On a final note, be sure that the cake tastes as good as it looks – Nothing is more disappointing than a beautiful cake that doesn’t tick the flavour boxes. So be sure to consult with your wedding cake maker how any decorations you choose will work with the longevity of your sponge cakes inside.
