Traditionally it was stated that an engagement ring should be equal to three months salary of the purchaser! But nowadays, trends are showing more and more couples are buying beautiful rings at a fraction of the cost. Couples in response feel the money would be better suited to paying for the wedding or putting towards the wedding rings. So what is there to consider with an engagement ring that won’t break the bank?
Firstly, the word ‘diamond’ will crop up time and time again. Now, we all love a diamond but in truth could we all tell the difference between a diamond and it’s marketplace rival, Cubic Zirconia? Many rings have the main stone set as Cubic Zirconia with smaller diamonds under one carat set alongside. This allows for a bigger looking “rock” in the middle at a fraction of the price without losing either beauty or elegance.
Then, there is the option of the metal. If you wish to buy a diamond ring there are options regarding the type of metal band the ring is made of. Typically there is white gold, silver or platinum to choose from. White gold is the more expensive choice due to being a plated gold against that of sterling silver. This offers a chance to reduce your ring budget. Platinum is by far the most expensive option but is a heavier metal to wear, which may not suit the wearer’s preference.
When the choice of stone and metal is considered, it is most important to think about the one element you cannot put a price on. And that is the sentimental value of the ring itself. Of course a luxury, high priced engagement ring would be everyone’s dream, but nothing is more beautiful than the thought put behind choosing the perfect ring for a magical proposal.
